Te Piki Oranga
Te piki Oranga
Te Piki Oranga is a kaupapa Māori health provider established in 2014 to serve whānau across Te Tauihu o Te Waka-a-Māui (Nelson, Tasman, and Marlborough). With community health hubs in Whakatū, Wairau, and Motueka, as well as in-home, mobile, and outreach services, Te Piki Oranga delivers accessible, holistic care grounded in the values of whānau ora and tino rangatiratanga. Their services span mental health, addictions, nursing, health promotion, and whānau support, all through a Te Ao Māori lens.
During the presentation, Alaine Huata, Karipa Akuhata, and Tere Taukamo highlighted aspects of this mahi, including Te Ao Māori group therapy, the use of te reo Māori as a form of rongoā, and the importance of relationship-based practice in regions like Wairau. Their kōrero reinforced Te Piki Oranga’s commitment to reducing health inequities and supporting whānau to thrive.
